Tips for online shopping

Shopping online is convenient and can be a great place to find items and check prices among competitors. Here are a few hints to keep in mind before you start your “shopping trip.”

Use a credit card as you have the right to dispute the charges if the items are not delivered or did not arrive in good condition.

Before entering any payment information, make sure you know the terms, delivery time, total costs including tax and shipping, and the refund policy.

To be sure information is sent safely, check to see that the address bar changes from “http” to “https” or “shttp” when it’s time to enter payment details.

Print a copy of the confirmation and verify that the physical address and phone number of the company appears on the confirmation.

Change your passwords on a regular basis and use passwords or PIN numbers that are not easily identifiable such as your phone number, pet’s name, etc.

If you are not familiar with the company, check with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and/or the complaint records filed with state and local consumer protection agencies.
