Protecting your Debit/ATM Card from FraudThe debit card is rapidly becoming the preferred payment method in retail transactions. And, just as with every other payment method, there are criminals out there scheming and plotting new ways to take our money. We hope to work with you, our valued customers, to foil those criminal plans and protect our accounts and systems. To that end, we have provided some simple precautions to keep in mind to safeguard your card and account information:
-
Always keep your card in the same location so you will notice when it is missing.
- Do not let anyone use your debit card and do not share your PIN, not even with family, friends or colleagues. Doing so removes much of the protection afforded to cardholders.
-
Shield your PIN number entry while using an ATM or point of sale terminal.
-
Make sure no one is lingering around you while you are keying in your transaction.
- Be aware of any suspicious looking activity and report it to the bank if you identify anything unusual.
- Check your statements against your receipts each month or more often through online banking to ensure that there are no incorrect, missing or unexplained transactions. Should you notice anything out of the ordinary, or if you believe your card has been lost or stolen, contact your local branch immediately. A list of our branch locations and their phone numbers is available on our branch locations page.
It is generally recommended not to discuss confidential or restricted information on mobile or wireless telephones as in some cases these conversations can be picked up by simple radio scanners and are not secure.
